Why is it important to learn how to round?
First, remember this:
- When you round numbers up or down,
you answer the question: About how many?
- Numbers that are rounded off are easier to remember than exact numbers.
For example, you might remember that there are about 6,000 people in your town. But you might forget that there are exactly 5,639 people.
- Rounding numbers is a good way to estimate when you add, subtract, multiply, or divide.
