Why is it important to learn how to round?
First, remember this:
- When you round
numbers up or down, you answer the question: About
how many?
- Numbers that are rounded
off are easier to remember than exact
numbers. For example, you might remember that two towns are
about 90 miles apart. But you might forget that they
are exactly
86 miles apart.
- Rounding
numbers is a good way to estimate when you add, subtract, multiply,
or divide.
