To subtract fractions with like denominators: |
Jerome hit the ball
of the times he was at bat, and Thomas hit the ball
of the times he was at bat. Find how much more of the time Jerome hit the ball than Thomas.

Since the denominators are the same, subtract the numerators only, and keep the same denominator.

Jerome hit the ball
more of the time than Thomas. This difference is in simplest form because the numerator and denominator have no common factor other than 1.
