How do you compare decimals?
| Example 1: |
To compare the decimals with the same place value: |
Jackie ran 13.65 miles, and Mike ran 13.06 miles.
- First, compare the whole numbers, the numbers to the left of the decimal point. Since both decimals have the same whole number (13) you can compare the digits to the right of the decimal point.

6 |
- Since both numbers end in the hundredths place you are comparing 65 hundredths and 6 hundredths.
6 hundredths is less than 65 hundredths, so
13.06 < 13.65
