One way to change a fraction to a decimal is to create an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

Example 1: To change a fraction like  to a decimal by making
  an equivalent fraction:

     

  • The fraction  describes what parts of the pizza are remaining. Since the denominator is a factor of 100, you can easily find an equivalent fraction with 100 as the denominator.

  • Find the number that the original denominator 4 can be multiplied by to equal the new denominator 100.
            4 × 25 = 100
