Example 1:

  • First multiply 64 by 3.

Multiply 4 by 3. Since the product of 4 and 3 is greater than 9 (4 × 3 = 12), put the 2 in the ones place and carry 1 ten (10) to the tens place.

    Now multiply 6 tens by 3. Remember to add the 1 ten that you carried (6 tens × 3 = 18 tens + 1 ten = 19 tens).

  • Now multiply 64 by 2 tens. You need to put a 0 in the ones place because 2 tens represents 20.

    Multiply 4 by 2 tens (4 × 2 tens = 8 tens).

Now multiply 6 tens by 2 tens (6 tens × 2 tens = 12 hundreds).

Now add 192 and 1280.
