Why use multiplication?
Multiplication is used
for adding numbers quickly.
For example, instead of adding 132
ten times:
132 + 132
+ 132 + 132
+ 132 + 132
+ 132 + 132
+ 132 + 132
= 1,320
You can multiply 132 by 10
to get the same answer:
132 × 10
= 1,320
Remember these facts when multiplying numbers:
- When multiplying any number by 0, the product
is always 0.
- It doesn’t matter in which order you multiply the numbers.
The product is always the same. This is called the Cummutative
Property.

- It doesn’t matter how the numbers are grouped when you
multiply them. The product is always the same. This is called
the Associative
Property.
