Why use multiplication?
Multiplication
is used for adding
numbers quickly. For example, instead of adding the number 32
five times:
32 + 32
+ 32 + 32
+ 32 = 160
You can multiply 32 by 5
to get the same answer:
32 × 5
= 160
Remember these facts when multiplying numbers:
- When multiplying any number by 0, the product
is always 0.
-
It doesn’t matter in which order you
multiply the numbers. The product is always the same. This
is called the
Commutative
Property.
